Ronald Linwood Shaffer

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Ronald Linwood Shaffer, 84, who left us on January 24, 2023.

The only son of Oscar Linwood and Margaret Shaffer, he attended Coatesville High School before graduating from Temple University with an architectural degree. He subsequently graduated from Villanova University with a master’s degree in architecture.

He shared a love of hunting with his father and was an avid hunter in younger years. Ron celebrated 62 years of marriage with his late wife Lois Ann Lied Shaffer, who preceded him in death. Lois and Ron resided in Thorndale, before moving to Morgantown, Lancaster County for the last 40 years. After retiring from Hub Fabricating (now Tyco) in Exeter, he provided architectural drawing and engineering support for many home building projects on the family properties.

Ron enjoyed a lifetime thrill with steam trains, being both a train hobbyist and passenger on many iconic steam engines in the United States. Ron loved woodworking and created many favorite pieces for the home and family. He was an avid Sherlock Homes fan and in later years enjoyed watching the movies for the retelling of his favorite mysteries. As a lifetime Free Mason, he was a Brother in good standing of the Williamson Masonic Lodge #309 in Downingtown, PA for many years.

Ron is survived by his children and their spouses; Penny Lynn Shaffer, Michael Linwood Shaffer and Teal Ann Burns-Shaffer, Melissa (Shaffer) and Jeff Hochhaus; grandchildren, Aaron (Karen), Rachel (Kevin), Erika and Derek; and great-grandchildren, Liam and Leo. He lived a long life and will be dearly missed by all.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for him during his last days.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, starting with a receiving time at 10AM at The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave, Honey Brook, Pa. A Masonic Service will be held at 11 AM and a time of reflections of Ron’s life will follow. Interment will follow at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cemetery.
