Roy W. Schane

Roy W. Schane, 94, of Honey Brook, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter on Monday, February 27, 2023, while under the loving care of hospice and his family.

He was born in Cumbola, Schuylkill County, PA on Sunday, October 21, 1928. Roy was the son of the late Roy W. Schane, Sr. and Florence (Mackey) Schane. He was the husband of the late Rose C. (MacPherson) Schane, who died on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.

Roy was a brick layer for fifty years with Union Local #1 of Philadelphia. He was a long-time member of Olivet United Methodist Church of Coatesville, PA. Roy was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Even greater than these contributions and his service was Roy’s dedication to his family. Whether it was attending his grandchildren’s band performances or baseball games, graduations or recitals, Roy was there. He always had a joke to crack and a laugh to give.

Roy and his wife of 67 years, Rose, were lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fans. They traveled to spring training in Clearwater, FL for many years. The Phillies game was always on in their home when the family gathered for get-togethers, which also included Roy’s model train set in the basement and Rose’s strawberries and bananas. Not only was their home a welcoming place of love for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but Roy and Rose were true examples of selfless, joy-filled love.

Roy was preceded in death by his two sisters, Priscilla and Thelma, and two brothers, David and Ralph.

Roy is survived by three sons, Randall R. (Deborah) Schane of Telford, Ronald L. (Robin) Schane of Terre Hill, and Robert W. (Victoria) Schane of Honey Brook and a daughter, Robin R. (Joseph) Gerress of West Chester, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 12 p.m. at The Labs Funeral Home, Inc, 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, PA with Rev. Bum Koo “BK” Chung officiating. Interment will follow at Honey Brook United Methodist Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Roy to Olivet United Methodist Church, 310 E. Chestnut St, Coatesville, PA 19320.
