Reverend Walter E. Shuler III, 77 of Honey Brook, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at home, in the presence of his family.
He was born in Lancaster, PA on August 27, 1945. Walter was the son of the late Walter E. and Madelyn (Essex) Shuler. He was the husband of the late Linda G. Shuler who went to Heaven on April 20, 2022.
Pastor Shuler was ordained in 1982 and the founder of Gateway Baptist Church in Honey Brook, PA. He worked for the Labs Funeral Home for over 30 years and deemed it a vital aspect of his ministry.
Pastor Shuler demonstrated a love for people and a special burden for the most vulnerable of our population. His outreach included operating a food distribution program, a relief ministry, multiple bus routes, a Christian school, a nursing home visitation, and served as a hospital chaplain.
Walter served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War. A former truck Owner Operator, Walter also worked in auto sales, as an electrician, and an underground blaster. He served on the Honey Brook Borough Council and was a prior member of the Honey Brook Fire Company.
In addition to his parents and wife, Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Shuler; a daughter, Tracy Norris; a son, Baby Walt; and a grandson, Kayce Norris.
He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Tanya Diehl) Shuler of Lakeland FL, Walter E. Shuler IV “Poke” (Kristine Blake) Shuler of Narvon PA, a daughter Kimberly (Jon) Kersey of Champaign IL, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 11:00 am at Gateway Baptist Church, 143 Suplee Rd, Honey Brook PA 19344. Pastor Walter Shuler IV will officiate. A calling hour will be held at the church prior to the service starting at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Bridgeville E.C. Cemetery.
