Joseph Patrick Bree
Businessman, Speed Skater
Joseph P. Bree, of Honey
Brook, PA and Apollo Beach, Fla, died peacefully in his sleep Monday surrounded
by family. He was 96.
Born on St. Patrick’s Day in
Brooklyn, N.Y., he grew up in Bay Ridge, and raised his family in Rainbow
Lakes, N.J., where he was a member of
the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire
Company, before retiring to New Port
Richey and Sun City Center, Florida.
Mr. Bree worked his entire career
in the food industry. He was
Vice-President of Gash & Feroli in New York, and at the time of his
retirement, Mr. Bree was Eastern District Sales Manager for Schreiber Foods, a
large Green Bay, Wisconsin cheese company.
In his youth, Joe was an
outstanding speed skater, winning hundreds of medals and trophies, including
the coveted Silver Skates. He was selected for the 1936 Olympic team.
Besides his parents, he was
predeceased by his brothers James and John, and his sister, Agnes Overbaugh.
He is survived by his wife of
73 years, Carole (nee Dixon), his daughter, Carole Lindstedt (Drew) of Lake
Shawnee, N.J.; his son James (Suzanne) of Honey Brook, PA, four grandchildren, Blake Lindstedt (Melissa) of Columbia, S.C.; Ryan Lindstedt
(Christina) of Hilton Head, S.C.; Kevin Bree (Amy) of Colorado Springs; and Meghan Bree Yagle (Rob) of Honey Brook,
PA, He also leaves nine great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be
celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, Feb 18, with visitation starting at 9:30 at
St Peter RC Church, 2835 Manor Road, West Brandywine, PA.
In lieu of flowers,
contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or
the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
