Esther H. Stofocik, 89, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, formerly of Tamaqua, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 13, 2018 in Virginia Beach.
She was born in Tamaqua on Monday, January 14th, 1929. Her father Charles Eames worked at Eames’ Bakery in Tamaqua as did her mother Esther (Hoffman) Eames. Esther was the wife of the late Joseph A. Stofocik, Sr., who died on April 1, 1985.
During her youth, she worked as a waitress at the Taylor’s Diner. Esther always served food with a smile and truly enjoyed having conversations with all who came to the Diner. That smile continued with her as Secretary at the Tamaqua Area Salvation Army at which she served 30 dedicated years. Although an extremely hard worker, who was always available to get the job done, she enjoyed her may hobbies while always making time to visit her family and see friends. Though her life was spent mostly in Tamaqua, she retired in Virginia to be closer to family. Esther will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her brother Michael Eames, and her sisters Anna Bachman, Mary Wink and Rita Sweeney.
Esther is survived by her two sons Joseph A. Stofocik, Jr. of New Mexico and Michael Stofocik of Virginia Beach. Also her four grandchildren, Rachel, Nick, Kathleen and Kevin. She will also be missed by her 6 great granddaughters whom she had the pleasure of seeing and caring for during her later years.
A memorial service will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11 AM from The Salvation Army of Tamaqua, 105 West Broad Street, Tamaqua, Pa. 18252 with Major Sharon Lynn Whispell and Major Sharon Cupp officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM. Interment will be private at the Sky View Memorial Park in Hometown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made in the memory of Esther to The Salvation Army of Tamaqua, at the above address.
