Jane Eleanor Stager (Lees), 82 years old, died at Tel Hai Retirement Community on Thursday, January 9, 2020.

Jane was born in Kearny, NJ on December 3, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Sarah Lees and sister of Sandy and Andrew. She graduated from Kearny High School in 1955 and went on to attend Trenton State College where she earned a degree in music education in 1959, majoring in voice and piano. She continued to study voice part time at Princeton Westminster Choir School while teaching music in the East Orange, NJ elementary schools. In addition to teaching in East Orange, Jane was a choral director at the First Presbyterian Church in her hometown of Kearny NJ before becoming the choir director and organist at Grace Methodist Church.

In 1961 Jane married John Wesley Stager. They moved to Havertown, PA in 1964 where Jane served as the organist and choir director of Trinity Methodist Church for many years. They became residents of Tel Hai in 2008. Jane stayed musically active at Tel Hai as chime choir director and choir member.

Jane is survived by her loving husband John, daughter Jenny, son James, grandchildren Simon, Sarah, Madeleine, Chloe and great-grandson Leon. Jane is also survived by her brother, Andrew Lees.

A calling hour will be held at the Tel Hai Chapel, 1200 Tel Hai Circle, Honey Brook, PA 19344, on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 10-11AM, to be followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tel Hai Retirement Community’s Performing Arts Series. Checks may be made payable to Tel Hai Development, 1200 Tel Hai Circle, Honey Brook, PA 19344.  Please reference the “Jane Stager Memorial Fund” on contribution checks.
