Roy Joseph Skiles, 89 yrs. of Gap, died on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the Chester County Hospital, following an illness.

He was born on Friday, July 31, 1931 in Coatesville. Roy was the son of the late Henry B. and Bertha (Miller) Skiles. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane (Leighton) Skiles.

Roy worked in the installation department of AT&T/ Bell Telephone. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Gap VFW & the Parkesburg American Legion. Prior to the Korean War, Roy was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers and played baseball for the Red Roses minor league team. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, softball, and golf.

Roy was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Ellis Skiles and a sister, Winnie (Skiles) Kelley.

He is survived by his four sons, Brian J. Skiles, Bruce A. Skiles, Brisbin M. Skiles, and Barry L. Skiles, a brother Brisbin Skiles, a sister, Bonnie Patton and two half brothers, William Patton and George Patton. There are 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 2 PM from The Labs Funeral Home, Inc. 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, Pa., with Pastor John Shantz officiating. Interment will follow at St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 PM.

Attendees are reminded of the COVID-19 pandemic guidelines and are kindly asked to wear a mask and observe physical distancing.

So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I loved playing softball with him and had many after games celebrations with laughter and a drink.

Brian, Bruce, Brisbin and Barry, I was so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. I would think of him often and sometimes reminisced about the “good old days” when Joe and Chettie were playing ball. I am pretty sure that they are tossing that ball and swinging their golf clubs together again. Carol Cochran
