Herman A. Arters, Sr.

Herman A. Arters, Sr., 88 Yrs., of Honey Brook, died Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the Penn State St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading.

Herman was born in Downingtown on November 5, 1932. He was the son of the late Daniel J. and Mary (McNeily) Arters. Herman was the husband of Shirley E. (Ladley) Arters, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.

He was an excavator with Daniel J. Arters, Jr. Excavating Company. He also worked as farmer, as a mechanic at the Howard Johnson’s on the Pa Turnpike in Chester County and had his own gas/service station. Herman was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Honey Brook American Legion Wawassan Post # 422 & the former Jr. Order of Mechanics Lodge. Herman enjoyed auctions, playing cards, and hot air balloons.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Conley, Rodney, Daniel Jr. and two sisters, Mabel and Jane.

Surviving is his three sons, Cheyney Arters of Honey Brook, Herman Arters, Jr., of Cambridge and Keith (Tina) Arters of Honey Brook, two daughters, Sheree (Terry) Kurtz of Honey Brook and Karen (Greg) Hurst of Honey Brook, five brothers, Howard Arters, Gene Arters, Dallas Arters, Martin Arters, and John Arters and two sisters, Arlene Schlimme and Ruthann Knight. There are 12 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 11 AM from The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, Pa., with Pastor David Mennig officiating. Interment will follow at Goodwill United Methodist Cemetery. A calling hour will be held one hour prior to the service.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Herman had a good sense of humor, whenever I would call the house I would ask how are you and he would say still kicking. Always remember the good times.
