My heart goes out to all the family. I had the distinct honor to call this man dad for many years, and he lived up to being a wonderful father figure to all of us. Calvin was a quiet man, but when he spoke, his words had weight and meaning. He always had sage advice but never let his personal feelings get in the way of loving his family to the fullest. My fondest memory is having the opportunity to go to a Lima 3/1 reunion and see him open up and talk about history and his personal recollections of his Marine Corp family. It is a memory I cherish dearly. Calvin also had a wicked sense of humor... and when he smiled or laughed, it was CONTAGIOUS and filled with warmth. Warmth. It brings me to another memory; Calvin always kept the thermostat at 56 degrees in the winter, and with me spending most of my life in Texas, this was an abomination and punishment to be so cold. I would sneak over and bump up the heat. He used to tell us that he wasn't buying any more oil through the winter. "When it's gone, it's gone. There is no more". All us kids know the inside joke and what we would tell him in return. I will miss you sir! And there is no memory I have that is not a good one. You were the best of the best, and I loved you, and I know I will see you again!
