Mintje "Minnie" Faber

Mintje (Minnie) Faber, 90, passed peacefully on January 21, 2022 in the presence of her family in Lancaster Pennsylvania. She was married to her late husband Ulbe (Dick) Faber for 52 years.

Born in The Netherlands in the village of Berlikum, Mintje was the daughter of the late Marie & Hidde Hoekstra. She is preceded in death by her sister, Tjet and her brother, Heerke. She has one surviving sister, Corrie Visbeek.

She will be deeply missed by her three sons and six grandchildren: Gerald & Melissa and their daughter Hannah Marie of Morgantown; Rick & Kathy and their children Megan Kate and Nathan Teade of Pleasant Hill, OR; and Sid & Lynda and their children James, Joshua and Julianna of Pittsburgh, PA.

Days after being married, Mintje & Ulbe boarded a ship for Montreal, Canada. From there they moved to Seattle, Washington; Poughkeepsie, New York; St. Paul, Minnesota; Dallas, Texas and finally Honey Brook, Pennsylvania.

With childhood memories of the war, times of scarcity and a missing father, Mintje frequently remarked on the goodness of God’s creation, often punctuated with her characteristic laugh. She grew countless lasting friendships, always tenderly nurtured with her steadfast Christian virtues. Mintje found great pleasure creating a large number of finely crafted cross-stitch pictures and enjoyed singing hymns. She celebrated the glory and beauty of the natural world; her favorite past times included a wandering walks through the woods, finding a new wild flower or an interesting rock. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain View at Garden Spot Village for their compassionate care for Mintje during her time there.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00am at the chapel at Garden spot Village, 433 S Kinzer Avenue, New Holland PA

Dear family, sad to hear aunt Mint passing away. I knew her mainly from photos and my parents' stories, about their stays with you in Honeybrook. And I remember -somewhere in the eighties- her at the corner of our kitchen table in Hilaard, covered in carrots. They suddenly flew from the pressure cooker through the air, onto Aunt Mint. Slight startle at first, quickly followed by big laughter. Wishing you all the strength with your loss.

Dear family, All our sympathy with the loss of aunt Mint. We wish you all strenght in these sad days. I'm so glad we were able to visit your mother in 2019. She still spoke good Frisian and we had a nice and warm conversation. We felt very welcome during our stay. Gerald and Melissa showed us the area were you grew up: it was impressive. Kindest regards Klasien, Gerben & Klaas Nammen Faber
