Dale A. Cook

Dale A. Cook, of Elverson, PA, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023 at home surrounded by the family that was so important to him.

Although his driver’s license states otherwise, Dale was born September 8, 1935 in Harriston, VA to parents Jacob and Bessie Cook and was the youngest of five siblings. It was here that he grew up among the fields and mountains- a scoundrel in his own words that lived many legends and adventures that will be told for years to come.

Behind every strong man stands an even stronger woman. On April 21, 1953 Dale married Geneva M. Cook, who- even as a young girl- told everyone she knew that one day he’d be her husband. The young couple followed work north to Pennsylvania where the deep roots of employment, family, and faith began to dig deep.

Mr. Cook worked 40 years at Rixie Paper Company, working his way up to a management level position which was a perfect fit for his knowledge of the trade and his ability to lead.

After his retirement from Rixie Paper Company, Dale quickly realized that retirement didn’t suit him quite as much as he thought and he and Geneva started their own landscaping business. This allowed them to work together for many years and to sometimes employ the extended family during busy seasons.

While his work history was something that he always approached with much respect and commitment, it was his faith in Jesus Christ, his love and dedication to family, his remarkable ability to make deep and personal connections with everyone he met, and his high expectations for himself and those around him that should truly define this man. Dale may have grown up a scoundrel, but that term could not be further from how most remember his time in our lives.

He was a man who would gladly give of his time, talents, and treasures, often without being asked. He was a caregiver of the sick, a teacher to those who would listen, a man who could instill confidence in others, and offered wisdom that came with a remarkable life. His legacy will be carried forward in the hearts and minds of everyone fortunate enough to call Dale family or friend.

In addition to his bride of nearly 70 years, Dale is survived by three daughters: Cindy Lucas (Wife of Darryl Lucas) of Lititz, PA, Cathy Silva of Elverson, PA, and Caryn McGann (Wife of Fred McGann) of Winchester, VA. He was the proud and loving grandfather of eight grandchildren and lived long enough to welcome five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Ebenezer Bible Chapel, 289 Warwick Furnace Road, Elverson, PA 19520, with Pastor Deane Boyd officiating. The viewing will begin at 9:30 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

I am so very sorry for your family's loss. I've cut his hair for a few years on and off and he was a great, hard working man! I always enjoyed asking him how the holidays were and he would say how the whole family was around! And we talked about flowers when he was going that! You guys have a great bond as a family. He will be missed by many!

I am truly sorry for the loss of Mr. Cook. While life took me away from the area, he is someone from my years in Pennsylvania whom I remember fondly. He had a great smile and always a kind word. I remember him as a pillar of Ebenezer church and I really wish I could have gotten to know him better now that I am older. I've appreciated seeing Cathy's pictures on Facebook and reading about his love of family and his life. You, his family, are truly blessed to be so greatly loved by an earthly father (grandfather, great grandfather) who obviously gave the example of how our Heavenly Father loves us. Your Fathers are now together and still loving you more than you will ever know! Prayers and Blessings.
