John W. Goodman, Jr. (1942-2025)
John Wilmer Goodman, aged 83, passed away peacefully at home on July 25th, 2025. Born on February 16th, in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, John was the son of the late John W. Goodman Sr and Edna Mae (Rettew) Goodman.
A graduate of Twin Valley High School, Class of 1960, John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy Tin Can Sailors, having served aboard the destroyer USS McGowan. He was a lifelong member of the Honey Brook Fire Company, where he served as Fire Chief for 12 years. Deeply committed to his community, John was active in the Boy Scouts as a Webelo leader and was a dedicated supporter of the Twin Valley Band and Wrestling Boosters.
Following the Navy, John worked as a Service Manager for the Coatesville Chevrolet Dealership before opening his own business in 1974. He ran a successful John Deere Dealership with his business partner, the late Charles “Butch” Plank, before selling the business to Kern Hardware in 1997. He had a remarkable gift for working with his hands and could build, fix, or repair just about anything—his creativity and craftsmanship touched every corner of his life and home.
Known for keeping his home, yard, and landscaping in immaculate condition, John took great pride in his surroundings and loved being outdoors. He had a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time at his beloved cabin in Centre County.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Herma (Weaver), his son, Jared, daughter-in-law, Tierni, two granddaughters, Catie and Sammi, and his sister, Gretchen Molner. He was preceded in death by sisters Ruth Anne Shade, Alice Beck, and his brothers Heber and Grant Goodman.
