In Loving Memory of Grace Mildred (Millie) Mattson
January 29, 1944 — January 11, 2026
Grace Mildred “Millie” Mattson, a woman known for her quick wit, generous spirit, and tireless work ethic, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and devotion. Born on January 29, 1944, in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Willis Evans and Thelma (Wynn) Evans Silknetter.
For 30 years, Millie and her husband were the proud owners of the Heritage Restaurant in Morgantown. It was here that she truly became a fixture of the community, turning long-term customers into lifelong friends. Though she retired in 2000, her social nature and drive soon drew her back to the workforce. She realized she missed the daily interactions with people and began a second career at Shady Maple Farm Market, where she worked for over 15 years before retiring for a second time.
Millie was the heart of any social circle. Whether she was traveling, baking for loved ones, or engaging in a spirited game, she lived for the moments spent with others. She was a dedicated member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church and the Lions Club, where she combined her love for community with a life of service. Known for her joking nature and hospitality, Millie’s home was often filled with the aroma of fresh baking and the sound of friends and family laughing. She was a graduate of the Twin Valley High School, Class of 1961 and enjoyed going on cruises and playing in the casinos.
Millie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Marwood “Woodie” Mattson, in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Willis Evans, Kenneth Evans, and Elizabeth Morris and her step-son Robert Mattson. Recently, she faced the profound loss of her daughter, confidante, and caretaker, Karen Stankard, following Karen’s valiant battle with cancer.
Her memory is carried on by a large and loving family: her children, daughter Patti Mattson and step-son William (Barbara) Mattson; Karen’s husband Jeffrey Stankard, grandchildren Stephanie Karstien, Jarad Mattson, Stephanie Dippel and Rev. Ryan Keifer, Ricky Reider Jr., Robert Reider, Michael Reider, Michael Mattson, Stephen Mattson, Grace Hannigan and Matthew Hannigan; 14 cherished great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends she treated like family.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the many special friends, and her niece, Bethany Tobias, who supported Millie throughout her illness and for caring for her until her peaceful passing. The family also offers heartfelt thanks to Goodwill Helping Hands and Tower Health at Home Hospice Care for the extraordinary compassion and care they provided.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 11 AM from The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., |Honey Brook, Pa., with Pastor Aron Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at the Honey Brook Methodist Cemetery. A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 11 AM.
