Jean R. Palmer

Jean R. Palmer, 94 years of Honey Brook, died on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the Reading Hospital, following an illness.

She was born on Thursday, July 30, 1931, in Philadelphia.  Jean was the daughter of the late Raymond and Marian (Rice) Dougherty.   She was the wife of the late Robert H. Palmer, who died on April 11, 2018.  They were married in August of 1957 and had their 60th wedding anniversary prior to Robert’s death.

Jean grew up in Philadelphia and attended Harrington Elementary School, Shaw Jr. High School and Philadelphia High School for Girls.  She graduated high school in June of 1949.  At that time the Philadelphia High School for Girls was located at 17th and Spring Garden Streets.

After high school, Jean attended West Chester State Teacher College, now West Chester University.   She graduated in May of 1953 with a BS degree in Elementary Education.   Jean also attended Penn State University, to earn her credits for a permanent teaching certification.

She was full time teacher and was later a substitute in the Upper Darby School District until her retirement in 1987.  Jean and Robert lived in Morton, then moving to West Chester, then to Elverson and then coming to the Tel Hai Retirement Community in 2010.   She enjoyed traveling and photography.  

Jean is survived by four nieces and a nephew and many great nieces and nephews.

A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at the Arlington Cemetery in Drexal Hill.
