Alongside her late husband Bill, she traveled to 49 of the 50 United States—riding a motorcycle through 47 of them—as well as numerous Canadian provinces, embracing the spirit of the open road. Joan also enjoyed gardening and canning with Bill. One season they put up over 400 quarts of spaghetti sauce using tomatoes from their 200 plants. She also enjoyed country line dancing.
