Rodney M. “Bink” Kern, 93 yrs. of Honey Brook, died on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Meadows HealthCare Center at the Tel Hai Retirement Community, following an illness.
He was born in Honey Brook, Pa on Sunday, May 7, 1933. Bink was the son of the late Martin D. and Mabel O. (Ottenkirk) Kern. He was the husband of the late Lois M. (Smith) Kern, who died on May 8, 2019.
Bink along with his family, owned and operated the former Kern Hardware Store of Honey Brook. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War. Bink was a lifetime member of the Honey Brook Fire Company, Honey Brook United Methodist Church, a 70-year member of the F.&A.M. Howel Lodge # 405, Valley of Reading Consistory, Rajah Shrine, and a 70 -year member of the Honey Brook American Legion Wawassan Post # 422. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting. Bink was a founding member of the 7-Point Hunting Club of Centre County.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary E. “Betty” Patterson.
Surviving are two sons, Mike and his wife Stephanie Kern of Honey Brook and Tom and his wife Dodie Kern of Honey Brook. There are four grandchildren, Steven Kern, Alexandria Hickey, Kyle Kern and Jessica Kern and two great grandchildren, Hunter Hickey and Sage Kern.
The family will receive friends from 1PM to 2 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Chapel of the Tel Hai Retirement Community, 3100 Tel Hai Circle, Honey Brook, Pa. A Masonic Service will be held at 2 PM. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:15 PM, with Chaplain David Klingensmith officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at the Honey Brook UMC Cemetery.
